Our first proper mocap session!

This saturday (the 14th) we went to a great space we rented for the day at de besturing. We did our first real mocap recording session with my buddy Justus in the rig.

Justus was a great sport and did everything I asked and more! He really does know his stuff where this sort of thing is concerned.

What we recorded

Well it's all a really big learning process for everyone involved. We recorded lots of kicks/punches/blocks, some running... all the fun stuff, but ran into some issues as well.

At one point we took a small break, changed a battery, and suddenly the rig wasn't connecting anymore. Turned out that the rather violent move we recorded before had loosened the antenna. I was almost ready to give up... But luckily we figured that out.

Gyro woes

Sadly we still had the same Gyro issues we had the thursday before. See the previous news post to see how wonky that can make the results. The gyro is a little tiny blue plastic cube that's positioned at the tailbone and should record the position/rotation of the skeleton as a whole, in the space. We recorded quite a bit simply without that data because it was mostly confusing. The motion of the limbs is really really good though!

I did find the documentation for the gyro at the site of the company that made that part (intersense), and I'll try to solve it all over the next week or two. The data we have right now may be usable, but if I can figure this bit out we may just do another session to get some properly clean data.
