Project goals

To have fun

First and foremost the goal of this project is for it to be fun for people to participate in it! The entire project depends on the participation of volunteers over the internet, without them it is simply impossible to do!

Staying open

All the content of this project is open source. Now this is not the first, and definitely not the only open source animation project out there. But as far as I can tell, the other projects are all media generated by a small group of people. Then the end result is published under a creative commons license, and the sources are made available.

In Project Petunia the sources are open from the start. The animations are created by participants that volunteer over the internet. Of course... quite a bit of the content is generated behind closed doors, it is simply impractical to have every bit of data generated online within a manageable timeframe. The main model (Petunia) for instance, has already been created, and can't be edited by the participants.

The final product

Once enough animated robots are generated by the participants, those animations will be used to generate a video/movie. It will take the form of a "music video". Thus it'll be around 3 minutes long. This video will be made available for people to download freely over the internet.

Perhaps also a DVD can be made with all the files used in the project, the final result, and some extras. That bit I am still thinking about. I think it depends on how much of a ruckus we can cause!
