![]() Backstory2007, The beginning.Petunia, the little monkey robot was originally created for the 2007 Blender Conference Art Festival & Suzanne Awards. It's a pre rigged 3d model that was given away to everyone. The fact that it's rigged was the big point. People who downloaded the model could animate him (yes Petunia's a boy!). Then they sent back the animated version and this was used to make a nice video. You can find the result, and some more detailed information here:
ParticipationIn total the model was downloaded 1452 times, and 41 animated versions were submitted for use in the video. All submitted animations were used! Even the one that made a rather distastefull gesture... though he might have been made to do that bit off camera.
Motion captureThere is also a second version of the robot that works with motion capture data. The mocap files were provided by the lovely people from http://www.mocapdata.com. Some 30 odd more versions of the robot were created with that data and also added to the video. It was great to work with, because you can get some real quick, and nice looking results.
ConclusionAll in all the project was a great success, and more importantly a heck of a lot of fun! So much fun in fact, that I decided to do it again, but bigger, better, and even more enjoyable! Dolf
